Huddersfield Town

Before I moved to Northampton I lived in the biggest town in England called Huddersfield. (In west Yorkshire) looking back at Huddersfield I think it is a sustainable town, the reason being is because everyone walks everywhere. It seemed everyone was so fit. The roads where never ever full of traffic unless there were a football match on. . This would affect the whole town.

Huddersfield does not really have much to offer besides a few bars all on the same road. There are few schools with very little activities for children who live in Huddersfield.

Huddersfield doesn’t really have much history left to it because old houses have been knocked down and replaced them with modern houses which don’t seem to be selling... So buildings sights are left at a stand still, which then makes the town look worse then what it already is.

I believe in Huddersfield the reason for high crime is because there is nothing for the children who then turn in to adults have nothing to do. That is why there are shocking results like this below

Huddersfield still has a lot of sustainable development to go in order for it to be a better town to live in.

Education for Citizenship

The constituency of Huddersfield, Huddersfield is Surrounded by Yorkshires countryside, Huddersfield has a richly diverse population. Its continued growth and redevelopment offers an exciting future for the town and the people who live there, Along with the traditional strength in manufacturing, Huddersfield is expanding in new industries. Information technology and communications companies are among those recently attracted in the area.

Greenhead College, which is situated just outside the centre of Huddersfield, achieves the best results from the tree colleges there are, they were the first in the league of sixth forms published by The Times in November 2003. Huddersfield New College, set high in the hills, also does well.
The University of Huddersfield has campuses throughout the town, and has a strong reputation. Employment prospects for Huddersfield graduates are strengthened through the University's close links to industry. Reflecting the town's diverse demographic, the University includes students from over 60 countries throughout the world. The University is also one of the largest single employers in Huddersfield, employing nearly 2,500 staff.

The modern Galpharm sports stadium, formerly the Alfred McAlpine stadium, is m seen to be the home of Huddersfield's League One football team, the Terriers, and also the Giants, Huddersfield's Rugby League FC.

Huddersfield railway station was described by John Betjeman as 'the most splendid station facade in England' second only to St Pancras, London. The station stands in St Georges Square, and has been given a £1 million make over and subsequently won the Europa Nostra award for European architecture.

The local MP in the area is a male and he goes by the name Barry Sheerman . The name of my local council is Kirklees council and the political party that dominates my local council is labor.

What is your attitude concerning people who are not planning to vote in the general election?

‘‘ I think it is there choice if they want to vote or not, I don’t think people should be forced to vote.’’

What main concerns do you have that may influence your vote?

‘‘The main concerns that will influence my vote, to vote is if BMP came into power, my 1 vote might be that last figure to stop them from coming into power’’

I think there is a transport problem although I do believe the public do try to help out where is possible when it comes to global warning, green house gases etc… I think this is why in most towns’ public transport such as busses ... Run every 30 minuets not every 10 minuets like London.

London is a BIG city where the pollution is very high I think this is due to the excellent public transport that runs so frequently thorough out the day and night .. I do not think transport outweighs the cost, the cost of travel and patrol is so expensive and these days you do not get your moneys worth.

There is nothing I personally can do to make the present transport system more sustainable, although I do get the bus half way to town then walk across Avenue Park, to get the bus up to park campus, so I guess I make a little effort to sustainable development.
